Anime Boston!

My, I've really been neglecting this poor blog. Buuuut.... I have an exciting entry for today!

So today I went to Anime Boston - my first anime con ever, and I had a blast. I didn't dress up as anything, but it was really great to see all the people in their costumes. I felt a little weird because I recognized a good deal of them, and Amy and Vivian were with me, and didn't know half of them. It was cool - I got pictures of Subaru and Tsukasa. Both of them had great costumes (and no, they weren't together - they were in different groups). We counted at least ten Inu-Yashas... That had to be the most popular costume by far. Some other cosplaying highlights include: Yuri from Alien 9 complete with roller blades, several Kenshins (Rurouni Kenshin), numerous Ryogas (Ranma 1/2), just about every Final Fantasy character possible (including an FFX2 Yuna), a big guy in a yellow Kero suit (scary!), Alucard (in tranforming many-eyed dog form - the eyes on his jacket even lit up), also the priesty dude from Hellsing - is he called Judas Priest or something? He bopped me on the head with his spade-shaped knife thingy. :P Okay, there were also lots of Dejikos and Puchikos (from Digi Charat - veeery popular, oh yes!), a Xelloss or two (no other Slayers characters though, boo hoo), Touga from Revolutionary Girl Utena, and probably lots of random stuff that I've forgotten. My personal fave? Probably the Tsukasa outfit. It looked really good.

Hem hem, so there was a music video competition going on - there were some really good ones. There was a funny one with the Mortal Kombat song and Hello Kitty - a very strange/amusing combination to be sure. There was also a great one with Kenshin - people love to make fighting Kenshin anime vids... There was also a really nice Cowboy Bebop one featuring Faye and Spike to that "Somewhere out there" song by Our Lady Peace. After we got out of the novice range though, then the videos started getting dark and weird and I didn't like them much - we left soon after. We watched "A Chinese Ghost Story," which was cute, but odd because it mixed 2-d characters with 3-d backgrounds. The backgrounds were fine, but there were also 3-d objects (usually transportation objects) and 3-d effects which looked really strange mixed together. It was a cute love story though, but as Amy pointed out, it could be interpreted to have a really sad and depressing ending. Depends on how you look at it, I guess.

Ooooh.... I finally bought the first volume of the MegaTokyo manga! It was on sale (got a dollar off :P) and I even found a dollar today! I feel so lucky. The artwork is so beautiful. *sighs happily* I couldn't get any CDs though - they were all imports so they cost a lot (more than $30 each). Too bad though - there was such a nice selection... Well, I'm happy with my MegaTokyo. I read it already, and it's a very nice compilation - lots of cool extra notes and stuff. Gah, I wish I could draw like that... <_<;

So yeah, I'm too tired to write any more right now, but let it be known that I had a great time, and I'd love to do it again! 'Night everyone. ^_^

Campus Preview Weekend

This weekend is MIT's Campus Preview Weekend, in which many many prefrosh come and invade our school. I can't believe it's already been a year since I came for CPW. Time sure flies... Apparently a record number of prefrosh are descending upon MIT this year - about 900 I think. That's shocking - I think there were only 600 or 700 last year. So Amy and I signed up to host prefrosh - we figured we'd have enough space to house two people in our room for the weekend. Unfortunately, the online forms that we filled out were not received the the CPW staff, so we didn't ever hear back from them. I got word of a mandatory meeting that all hosts had to attend, and got an email address from that. Well, I emailed the people at that address and asked them what happened. Someone wrote back and explained that since they had never received my form, I wasn't in their database, and I would not be hosting. Then, someone else emailed me and told me that since there were some prefrosh who signed up late, I'd be hosting one of them. The same thing happened to Amy. The meeting was tonight (er, technically last night, but whatever...) and I went for both myself and for Amy since she had orchestra. When I went to pick up the info sheets on who we'd be hosting, I was surprised to receive not two, but three sheets. So now we appear to be hosting three people. To make matters worse, one of them needs a cot because she's not bringing a sleeping bag. Absurd! I hope everything fits - I hope I can pawn one off to Janet since she didn't get a prefrosh, and she was expecting one... Well, it will be interesting to see how this turns out...

Oh yeah, I went to the freshman formal on Sunday, and it was lots of fun! My prom dress even got some useage, which is always good. :P Heh, while Janet gambled (with fake money), Vikki took a nap, and I doodled on my Hitchhiker's Guide which was in my purse.... So sad. Still had a good time though. ^_^ The Logs sounded great - Julie, I'm sure they're better than the Heightsmen! :P

And for the anime note of the day: The D.N.Angel anime has started airing in Japan!!! *bounces around the room in a happy daze* I got ahold of the first episode today, and while I was disappointed that the opening song didn't play (I was looking forward to that too!), I still enjoyed it. A few things surprised me - most notably that the story is set in a very European-looking city. Thinking back to the manga, that was the same, but it just wasn't as noticible. It sure stuck out in the anime - I think it looked a little strange. *shrugs* But, aaaah! Dark is so hot! Wah, I love that part when Daisuke first turns into Dark..... *hides Zelgadis in the back of her closet* I wish I could draw him, but his hair's too messy. :D Okay, too much excitement. Must sleep...

Oh wait, wait, one more thing to say. If you haven't seen Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, you really should. It's a film by Hayao Miyazaki (the guy who did Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away) and it is excellent. Go watch it, it's so good!! *gets overly hyper and passes out on the floor*
