I had about half an hour to kill after I finished up my work at work. And conveniently enough, my last book to reshelve happened to be the 1951 volume of Consumer Reports, so I stood around and read it. Oh my goodness, the most amusing thing ever. Did you know that both Starkist and Chicken of the Sea tuna have been around for more than 50 years?! They rated pretty well too, even though I prefer Geisha tuna myself. It wasn't in the report though - guess it's too recent. ^_^ I browsed through the Consumer Reports for both 1951 and 1991, just for kicks. In 1951, they were all about tuna fish, tomato soup, and pressure cookers. In 1991, they were more interested in potato chips, fast food breakfasts, and umbrellas (heh, I think I must've had food on my mind). And of course, both contained many articles about cars. Actually, what was really interesting was that there was an article comparing airlines, and Southwest ranked pretty well in comparison to others - it topped American, United, and US Air. What's really amusing is that I didn't know that Southwest was that old. But if you looked in the 'destinations' column, it was still a western US carrier... Guess it hadn't expanded beyond the 'southwest' part yet, heh. I eventually made myself stop reading because it was 5:00 and time to go home, but I could have read it for a lot longer... So cool! Way cooler than the stupid Time Magazine. Man, I used to love reading that thing, but it's become so... empty recently. There's hardly ever anything that manages to catch my interest. *sigh*
Anyway, as for the rest of my life... This week has been so much better than the past two were. That's because the usual 6.170 p-set-from-hell was pushed back to being due on Tuesday instead of Thursday as usual (we had a test on Monday, which I did really badly on). I haven't started it yet, but at least I've had plenty of time to do the rest of my work for other classes, and it's really good that I had time for it all, because my 6.004 lab took a really long time. Ugh, it wasn't fun... The orgo p-set was easy... again. I went to a different recitation today, and it was good, although the TA didn't write that much on the board, and when he did write stuff, it was almost unreadable. But this girl there, she complained about the p-sets being so easy! Aaah! I wouldn't complain - I like that I can do the p-set in 3 hours unlike my 6.170 p-sets which take about 30. x_X; Hm, speaking of 6.170, we had to fill out mid-term evaluations today. They left lots of space for comments, and I used most of it. That class...! I feel no incentive to actually go to lecture! The lecture notes are way more informative than the lectures, and I don't fall asleep while reading them. I don't think I've ever felt that going to class was such a waste of time. It's that class and 6.004.... Yeah, for 6.004, I go to lecture, and I don't understand a single word that the lecturer says, and then I fall asleep and don't even hear that. Then I go to recitation and learn everything, 'cause lecture has no bearing on the rest of the class. At all. Agggh! So frustrating! You would think, that with Electrical Engineering/Computer Science being the biggest major here at MIT, they could find some competent professors?! It's all a LIE! Don't come here people, not if you're Course VI (EECS), it's so not worth it!!! Of course, if I were at Carnegie Mellon, would I be saying the same exact thing? :P
Woot! The anime club got free .hack trading card game decks, and I'm going to get one! I'm also getting one of the two free Black Rose posters that came along with the set 'cause I'm an officer, and I am on the officer's list and stuff. Mwahahaha! I am so excited. ^_^ Oh yes, I am also the club's 't-shirt bitch' now, so I have to figure out final designs and 'color swatches.' Never mind that I don't know where to go looking for said color swatches. Some club members have done t-shirt stuff before, but haven't given me URLs or anything. That sure would be handy... I better remember to ask. So hey, even if I don't win the McCormick t-shirt contest, I can still have an anime club shirt drawn and designed by me. ^_^ Hahaha, yeah, McCormick t-shirt contest... Like I'm ever going to hear from those social chairs ever again. My goodness, do you want to hear again how much this dorm sucks? *sigh* So the deadline for the contest was the 28th of February or something, and I had absolutely no time to think anything up until, like, 11pm of the 28th. So then I sat down and started working, and I finally got preliminary designs done around 4am or something. I don't know why it took me so long - it's not like they're complicated or anything. It's just clipart. o_O I sent it in late, but I never got a reply, so I don't know if they accepted it or not. You know, they could've at least let me know, right? Oh, if you want to see, I did a butterfly and an angel design. I did the butterfly one first, just because I wanted a shirt with a butterfly... And the angel one, heh, well, that was inspired by some of the clipart on Custom Ink's website. I went out and made my own. It's appropriate for the dorm--soooo appropriate! Because this place is dumb and has no personality. As generic as a bathroom sign. Uh, yeah, I'm hoping that people will just think it's cute and go with it. >:D But I don't even know how it will all be decided. I was thinking maybe there'd be dormwide voting or something, but I haven't heard anything from the t-shirt folks. So maybe we just decide. And we'll never know what other options we had. I'm kind of curious... I'm interested of course, because there's a Cheesecake Factory gift certificate involved, and well, I'm into stuff like that. Sarah says that I have to win so that we can go to the Galleria and splurge, since she got that gift certificate at Ring Premiere, heh. I guess it wouldn't kill me to have someone else win (I'm so generous, aren't I? ;P), but it better be a good design. None of this silly, "Use the clipart on the website that Amy made because we are lame and can't stand the thought of being different." That's not a dig against Amy - it's a complaint of using the same logo. It went great with the old shirt because it was a parody of the Volkswagon commercial, and without that, it wouldn't make much sense. Hm, I feel like I've said this before. o_o;
Ah! Ah! I bought my Brass Rat the other day! For those of you not familiar with MITspeak, the Brass Rat is what we call our class ring. That's because it's got a beaver on the bezel and I guess it kind of looks like a rat. Mine's not brass though - I got a white-gold ring because I never wear gold, and I much prefer the color silver. I'm pleased by how much depth is on the ring - there's a lot more contrast than you would expect by just looking at the artist's pictures. I hope I got the right size - a 6 1/2 was a bit too big, but there wasn't a 6 1/4 to try on. I got a 6 1/4 - I hope it's okay. And those frat letters! Phi Theta. Sigh. I really wish they weren't there. A lot of people thought so too, but Ring Comm refuses to change it, so we're stuck. A bunch of people (Jim's floor :P) think that we should make our own Phi Theta fraternity. I think it would be amusing - Sarah's even designed shirts for it! So the natural course of affairs was to transform Jesper and Thraxxin from their newly gothified selves into frat-boys! Aaah! I feel bad for them. I think they'll be going back to normal soon, once I get over this Phi Theta kick. ^_^;
