CityScapes

As you should have gathered from my last blog entry, I went to NYC with Sarah and Vikki last weekend. I had a good time - the weather was fantastic and we got to do a lot of things. Let's see... In no particular order, we went to Central Park (gorgeous... simply gorgeous), the American Museum of Natural History (hadn't been in years - it was great!), the Serendipity cafe (If you've ever seen the movie... Their desserts are really good, but the service is highly questionable - any place where you have to flirt with the waiters just to get a table clearly has something wrong with it...), the UN building, the Strand (a very cool bookstore in Union Square), Chinatown (the Chinatown Ice Cream Factory is a new favorite of mine), Times Square (but no shows, sadly), Grand Central (there was a lady towing along her little dog that didn't want to walk), a Korean restaurant (Thai is better, I think), Pret a Manger (a British chain of sandwich shops that has expanded into the US - their sandwiches are fantastic, and it's a shame that Sarah and Vikki had the unfortunate experience of... going to the wrong place! o_o), and Kinokuniya (more manga for me, what did you expect?). We also discovered an art piece called the UberOrgan, basically a giant organ made out of all sorts of random plastic sheets and tubing, which looked a lot cooler than it sounded. The Chinatown bus was more expensive than last year, and it took just as long to get in and out of New York as it did last year... But at least this time around, I had my iPod and it did a good job of keeping me occupied.

This all reminds me that I still owe Sarah's sister a thank-you card, 'cause we stayed at her apartment. Guess I better figure out where I stash all those random cards that I never use.

Anime Boston is next weekend... Already, argh! My wings are still incomplete, but they're getting there... Slowly. I need to get it done soon, so I can start playing around with feathers and ribbon. o_o; I started growing out my nails, and they are making it hard for me to type, so I'm probably going to give up on that, and find some fake ones. Long nails suck - I don't understand how my sisters can stand it, what with all the computer chatting and piano playing that they do.

Long Weekend

Thank goodness this week is over. I've had two exams over the past two days and they were both awful. But.... they are behind me! Now I just have to worry about two major papers due next week. <_<

But enough of that. We get a 4-day weekend! Sarah and Vikki and I are going to New York City for a few days, since we haven't done that in a long time. Unlike the last time we went, our plans are not too structured. We're going to visit the Natural History Museum (Yay! I haven't been there in years), as well as some places that I've never been to before (the UN building, Grand Central station). Vikki thinks we should do an NYC ice cream crawl. Sarah and I were quick to shoot her down. XD I'm looking forward to hanging out in Central Park. Greenery is far too scarce around MIT. <_<; Anyway, I'll be sure to write all about it when I get back!

The British Business journal series that I'm barcoding at the library right now had this very insistent ad for Bahrain Business. Seriously though, how many people out there need a whole magazine devoted to business in Bahrain? I'll bet that at least half the people (at least in the US) have no idea where Bahrain is, or that it's a country, even. ;~; People fail me!

In other news, my clay dragons appear to be generating a good deal of interest all of a sudden. I googled 'clay dragons', and my site was third! That might have something to do with it... Guess I ought to write a FAQ or something. Too bad I didn't manage to take a picture of the DDR dragon that I made before I gave it to Brett - it was pretty cool! Ah... It would be nice to go back to making dragons again sometime. Too bad there is no time for it. Too much manga and anime and music out there for me to read and watch and listen to... ^_~

Ha ha. I started watching Sukisyo and Loveless. They are both great, Sukisyo for its silliness and chibis and Hikaru Midorikawa(!), and Loveless for its interesting plot, and neko mimi (kitty ears)! Shounen ai is the best - I'm totally hooked (not that I wasn't before or anything... :D). Although I'm still watching Naruto, and it's pretty awesome too. I'm glad I've stuck with it, even through the (many many) slow parts. Too bad the female characters (with the possible exception of Tsunade) will never stop sucking. XD

Short and Sweet

There are stories - they conflict. There is logic - it is flawed.

I refuse to hold the blame because it is not mine.

Break's Over, Guys

I haven't felt like writing in quite a while. Actually, that's a lie. I've felt like writing, but I haven't been able to bring myself to do it. After spring break, it's been the same monotony again. I'm trying for decent amounts of sleep now, but I got sidetracked by online manga last night. I guess I'm never going to develop any self restraint.

No cool library items today, although last week, I found an article on fashion for corporate executives in the 80's and I thought it was hilarious and copied a picture of a guy trying to look cool in his suit with suspenders. ^_^ That will go on my door, once I manage to take down the huge Legolas poster that Sarah put up a few days back.

Spring break was nice - I went home as usual. Did some more clothes shopping, avoided doing homework although I brought tons of stuff home, washed lots of dishes, played massive amounts of DDR. All that good stuff. Ah, I had Brett come visit too, since most of my high school friends didn't have spring break at the same time as me and no one was around. It was maybe a bit awkward for the both of us, but there was great fun to be had in touring Londonderry, raiding the uber-ghetto FunWorld (I totally forgot how scary and sad that place is), and evading the zombie geese. I managed to beat some 9-foot DDR songs during that time too (Tsugaru, Matsuri Japan, Frozen Ray), though only on my own system, of which I am painfully aware that the timing is all off. >_<

At long last, I'm making myself a pair of wings. I've always wanted a cute little pair of feathery angel wings to wear for absolutely no reason at all (well, not always, but definitely since sometime in high school when Brynne made herself a pair and they were awesome), so I started thinking about cosplay for Anime Boston. And then, since Alissa offered to lend me her Matrix trenchcoat, I decided to cosplay as Yuli, the vampire from Pop'n Music. Pop'n Music is a game that I really know nothing about, other than it's a Bemani type thing with colorful buttons. Okay, that's a lie. I get the idea of the game - it's more like I know nothing about Yuli other than he's the singer for the band Deuil, the other two members of which are a werewolf and a mummy. XD Ah well. In the end, instead of feathered wings, I'm making a pair of red dragon-esque wings out of wire and cloth. So far, they're looking pretty good although I've only done about half on one wing. I'm really excited to finish - I can't wait to wear them! They are rather small - each wing is about a foot and a half long, and they curve nicely, and I rather like them. Sewing the cloth together is a bit complicated though, since I'm going for a ribbed look, which requires several small pieces stiched together, and I don't know how I'm going to finish off the base of the wings, and how to get it all to be wearable. No matter. I'll cross those bridges when I come to them. I just wish I had more time to work on them.

I've decided that I need to become a better person. Only problem is, I'm not sure how. Maybe I need to stop being so bitter. Or maybe people need to stop pissing me off. Certain people need to learn to grow up. Seriously. Aren't we all adults by now? Maybe I should actually come out and say it sometime. Not that I think it will help.

I think I'm a little too possessive for my own good. If I could detach myself from my surroundings a bit more, I think I'd feel a good deal less frustrated. But then I'd probably just end up feeling more empty than I am already. My goal in life seems to have been to play a supporting character role, and I often feel like that even in my own life. This can't be right.
