An Insider's Insight

Today as I ate lunch outside, I couldn't help but overhear two men arguing politics. They were talking about the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and how there is still so much junk lying around everywhere, and one of the guys got very proud about his idea that he told to someone important. I guess there are heaps of cars just lying around in New Orleans or something, but it would appear that these useless cars haven't been disposed of yet. This man's brilliant idea was to take all these cars and sink them in the ocean just off the coast. In the mud or something. His reasoning was that divers love to see cars underwater and that it would help marine life.

Now, I don't know about you, but I can attest that as a diver, coming upon an underwater junkyard would make me turn around and swim the other way. While it is true that wrecks provide some fascinating diving locations, a major part of their charm is that you can swim through them. Who knows, maybe this is possible with some of the larger SUVs out there, but that's beside the point. Who'd be diving right outside of New Orleans anyway? There's nothing to see but silt.

I couldn't help but feel irritated simply by the fact that someone thought this up.
